Bogo City Sinkhole Videos Are Trending
Videos showing the sinkhole in Barangay Guadalupe, Bogo City, Cebu are making the rounds on Facebook, and it is understandable why people are curious. A major ground opening in our own community is something people want to see, understand, and talk about.
But before we hit share, there is one important reminder: not every video circulating online tells the complete story.
What We Know About the Guadalupe Sinkhole
The ground opening was reported in Purok Indilicio, Barangay Guadalupe, Bogo City, after it was discovered on August 20, 2026. The Bogo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office responded and authorities immediately placed the area under safety restrictions. Reports put the opening at roughly 15 to 16 meters across, although its exact depth and underground extent still require technical assessment.
Authorities established a 20-meter safety perimeter and urged the public not to approach the area. Residents were also warned not to throw garbage, soil, rocks, or other debris into the opening.
Three houses are located near the affected area. Although they were reported to be outside the 20-meter setback, the city encouraged the occupied household to consider preemptive evacuation as a precaution
What About the Videos Circulating Online?
This is where we need to be careful.
Some videos being shared on social media may be edited, reposted, shortened, or presented without the original context. A dramatic caption can make an already serious situation look even more alarming — and a video recorded at one point in time may not accurately represent what is happening at the site today.
That does not mean every video is fake. It simply means we should not automatically treat a viral video, caption, voice-over, or claim as an official update.
What Has Not Yet Been Confirmed?
The exact cause, depth, underground extent, and surrounding soil conditions still require geological assessment. The city government has coordinated with the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), whose technical personnel inspected the area alongside local responders and barangay officials.
So when you see claims online explaining exactly why the sinkhole appeared, how deep it is, whether it connects to another underground opening, or what will happen next, pause before accepting the claim as fact unless it comes from a credible source or an official technical assessment.
Content Is Important. So Is Responsibility.
We understand the urge to create content. We love stories. We love videos. We love seeing people document what is happening around Bogo.
But when the subject involves public safety, there is a line between documenting what is happening and creating unnecessary fear.
If you're a vlogger, creator, page administrator, or simply someone sharing a video, ask yourself:
Was this video actually recorded where it says it was?
Is the date clear?
Has the footage been edited in a way that changes the context?
Does the caption claim something the video itself cannot prove?
Is the information coming from an official or credible source?
Let's Keep Bogo Informed, Not Misled
We don't need to stop creating content about what is happening in Bogo. In fact, responsible documentation can help the community stay informed.
But let's choose context over clickbait, facts over speculation, and public safety over engagement.
Before sharing the next viral sinkhole video, take a moment to check where it came from, when it was recorded, and whether the information has been confirmed.
